List

This layout lists the Category records that you have created.

Running from the top to the bottom of this layout, left to right:

navigation bar (top)

The tabs at the top of this layout facilitate navigation to the Dashboard Summary layout, and the Categories, Projects, and Notes list layouts.

N.B. The Notes tab will appear only after you have added a note to the application.

Click this button to view the online help facility for the application.

exit

Click this button to close the application.

show all

Click this button to view every Category record that you have created.

Activating this button will clear the search string field.

After activation, the button will be replaced by the notification showing all.

The field preceded by a magnifying glass icon, containing the placeholder text enter search string here, facilitates a search across all fields under the Category heading.

Enter text here to return matching Category records on a find-as-you-type basis.

Fields that contain your search string will be highlighted.

calendar (icon)

Click this button to enter a record created/modified date in the search string field.

After you click this button, a drop-down calendar will appear below the icon.

Select a date from this calendar to find records created/modified on that date.

X (icon)

Click this button to clear the search string field, and view every record under the Category heading.

magnifying glass + (icon)

Click this button to navigate to the advanced search layout, where you may enter search strings on a field-by-field basis.

tagged

Tags enable you to isolate individual records in the current list.

Click this toggle button to view records that you have tagged.

Click it again to view records that you have not tagged.

record number bar

The record number bar on the far right of the layout facilitates navigation through the records listed.

Click the buttons to the right and left of the record number field to navigate to the first, previous, next or last record in the list.

new

Click this button to create a new Category.

After you have created a Category, you may add Notes to it.

Click this toggle button to view the Category field only.

Click it again to view every field for each Category.

copy

Click this button to copy details of the records listed to the clipboard.

After you click this button, you will be asked if you would like to copy:

(a) Category titles only, or

(b) Category titles, plus their accompanying Notes.

printer (icon)

Click this button to print a report of the records listed.

After you click this button, you will be asked if you would like to create a report that lists:

(a) Category titles only, or

(b) Category titles, plus their accompanying Notes.

tag

Tags enable you to isolate individual records in the current list.

Click this toggle button to tag every record currently listed.

Click it again to remove tags from every record currently listed.

duplicate

Click this button to duplicate every record currently listed.

After you click this button, you will be asked if you would like to duplicate:

(a) Category titles only, or

(b) Category titles, plus their accompanying Notes.

Duplicates – Category titles and their Notes – will be preceded by the prefix –duplicate–.

convert

Click this button to convert Category records (i.e. Category titles, plus their Notes) to Project records.

After you click this button, you will be asked if you would like to convert:

(a) Categories listed into a single Project, with a temporary title (bearing the prefix project, and a suffix composed of the date and time, in the format DDMMYYYY and HHMMSS), and each Category as a separate chapter under that Project, and their Notes under these new Chapters,

or

(b) Categories listed and their Notes into separate Projects, each bearing the same name as the original Category.

For example, having accumulated a number of Notes under the Category Orphan Story, you may decide to write a novel that incorporates them.

After you click the button labelled convert, followed by the option separate, a new Project will be created under the Project heading, also titled Orphan Story (you may change this later).

Category Notes transferred to a Project heading may be sub-divided among the secondary Project headings Beats, Chapters, Characters, and Campaigns.

dustbin (icon)

Click this button to delete every record listed, and their accompanying Notes.

This process is irreversible.

field labels

Click the label above a field to sort records by that field in alphanumeric order.

Click the label again to sort records by that field in reverse alphanumeric order.

To remove the temporary sort on a field, hold down the shift key and click the relevant field label.

Click the button with the arrow on it to view full details for that record.

cursor

Position your cursor over a text field to view the full contents of that field as a pop-up hint.

tagged

Tags enable you to isolate individual records in the current list.

Click this toggle button to tag the current record.

Click it again to remove the tag from the current record.

duplicate

Click this button to duplicate the current record.

After you click this button, you will be asked if you would like to duplicate:

(a) the Category title only, or

(b) the Category title, plus its accompanying Notes.

The duplicate – the Category title and its Notes – will be preceded by the prefix –duplicate–.

convert

Click this button to convert a Category record (i.e., Category title and its Notes) into a Project record.

For example, having accumulated a number of Notes under the Category Orphan Story, you may decide to write a novel that incorporates them.

After you click the button labelled convert, a new Project will be created under the Project heading, also titled Orphan Story (you may change this later).

After Notes have been transferred to the Project heading, you may sub-divide them among the secondary Project headings (Beats, Chapters, Characters, and Campaigns).

combine

Click this button to combine the selected Category and its Notes with another Category.

After you click this button, a window will pop-up to facilitate the selection of the target Category for the current Category’s Notes.

After you have selected a Category, click the button labelledcombine at the end of its row to transfer the current Category’s Notes to it.

The current Category will surrender its title to the selected Category.

This process is irreversible.

dustbin (icon)

Click this button to delete the current Category, and its Notes.

This process is irreversible.
